This September, Heather and Gowri had the great pleasure of presenting a workshop, You, Me, Us: Making Connections Through a Collaborative Practice, at the 6th ITAC Conference in Oslo, Norway. (ITAC stands for the International Teaching Artist Collaborative). We had a lively and enthusiastic group of teaching artists from around the world who learned about working collaboratively and participated in a hands-on, interactive activity that integrated movement and visual arts. It was a wonderful to collaborate with new friends and share our collaborative experiences. Heather and Gowri recently presented, "Planning for Success: Building an Inclusive Education Program through the Arts" at the 2022 LEAD (Leadership Exchange in Arts and Disability) Conference, which took place at the Raleigh Conference Center, Raleigh, NC. It was a wonderful experience, full of learning and inspiration, new friends, and idea sharing, with over 700 participants from across the United States. Earlier today we had the great pleasure of facilitating the first of two webinars for the Grassroots School Partners in collaboration with North Carolina Arts Council.
Over a fast and fun packed hour, we explored best practices, planning, and partnerships. We’re truly excited to see more teaching artists collaborating with schools in rural NC; these residencies can be life-changing experiences for our students, schools, and communities. Earlier today, we facilitated our first in-person professional development workshop with Buncombe County Schools in Asheville, NC. We had a fantastic turnout with teachers from all arts disciplines participating in our Inclusive Teaching Practices training. Slideshow below features images of the workshop participants completing activities during the session, and a photo of Gowri and Heather from Teaching Artists Connect. On March 30th, 2022 Teaching Artists Connect will be offering an interactive online session in an 'Introduction to Teaching Artistry' to students in the ACA (Arts & Communications Academy) at the North Country Union High School in Newport VT, where we'll discuss where and how teaching artists work, pathways to employment, and the joys and challenges of teaching artistry.
